Definition
An outcome-linked mandate is a strategy1 engagement in which part of the fee is tied to agreed results, such as launch, savings or event KPIs. The KPIs, their baselines, targets, dates and measurement method are agreed and signed before work starts, and only the client's own system data decides the result.
Also called: outcome-based consulting.
Explained in full on The outcome-linked mandate.
Context
Tying part of a fee to measured results aligns the adviser with the outcome rather than the hours worked. It only works when the measures are agreed in advance and read from data both sides trust.
In practice
A mandate needs a Twin with strategy1 and KPIs that can be measured in the client's own CRM, ERP or ticketing system, so it usually follows an Engine Sprint or a retainer. Each measurement is a hash-sealed snapshot, and a dispute log is kept from day one. Outcome-linked fees are not offered for fund-raising or listings.
FAQ
